Varnish Top Coats | Jolie

Jolie Varnish is a clear, water-based acrylic topcoat that creates a long-lasting finish on furniture and cabinetry. Available in two different sheen levels, it is perfect for projects that require a higher sheen.

Jolie Varnish is an easy to use alternative to a wax topcoat over Jolie Paint, stained, or raw wood.

For best results, apply 2-3 coats of Jolie Varnish with a synthetic bristle brush, such as a Jolie Flat Brush, a sprayer, or a low nap roller.

Please Note: Jolie Varnish may alter the hue of white paint colors, making them appear slightly warmer. If using Jolie Paint in any of our whites, we recommend sealing with Jolie Finishing Wax to avoid changes in color.

COVERAGE: One 8oz (236.6ml) covers approximately 20-30 square feet (1.9-2.8 square meters). One quart (946ml) covers approximately 100-125 square feet (9.3-11.6 square meters). One gallon (3.79 liters) covers approximately 450 square feet (41.8 square meters). Actual coverage may vary depending on surface and application.

How to Use Jolie Varnish

Step 1

Before beginning, ensure that your surface is clean, dry, and free of all contaminants. Raw wood should be sanded smooth and dusted.

Gently shake your can of Jolie Varnish, then open and stir well to mix in any solids that may have settled at the bottom of the can. Always use Jolie Varnish at full strength - never dilute with water.

Note: Jolie Varnish is not suitable for floors, unprotected exteriors surfaces, waxed surfaces, or food-prep surfaces, such as counter tops.

Step 2

Apply a liberal first coat of Jolie Varnish with a synthetic bristle brush, such as a Jolie Flat Brush, being careful to avoid overworking with pressure or excessive back brushing.

Varnish can also be applied using an airless sprayer. Use the following recommendations and/or the instructions from your sprayer’s manufacturer.

Tip: .011”-.013”

Fan: 40°-60° (8”-12”)

Pressure: 1200-1600 psi

PRO TIP: For larger areas, use a roller to apply Jolie Varnish and brush it out with a Flat Brush. This will give you a more even application and keep you from overworking the finish.

After applying your first coat, allow the Varnish to dry for 4-6 hours.

Always close Varnish container after each use and wash brushes thoroughly with soap and warm water immediately after use.

Step 3

After the Varnish has dried, sand between coats with a fine Jolie Sanding Pad (grey) for the smoothest finish.

Step 4

Repeat steps one through three to apply 1-2 additional coats of Jolie Varnish, making sure to allow each coat to dry for 4-6 hours. Be gentle with the final finish for two days so that the curing process can begin. Jolie Varnish will take up to 30 days to fully cure and harden.

To maintain your finish, clean surface with mild soapy water and avoid harsh chemicals.
